Friendly and comfortable – a great base for our Devon golf tour
I visited Tor Dean as part of a 7 man golf trip. The owners, Ken and his family, were really flexible and pulled out the stops to make our trip as comfortable as possible. The rooms were always well prepared and the breakfast service was great – Ashley was always helpful and cheerful . The guest house is well located, very close to the town centre and it was a short walk each day for us to enjoy a different restaurant very night. Ken is very friendly and always has time to stop and check that everything is going well and make local recommendations. There are so many good golf courses in the area and Tor Dean makes a great base from which to enjoy them.More
Founded in 1909, the course has steadily evolved to present a first class parkland layout that offers a challenging yet rewarding test of golf in beautiful natural surroundings. Extensive views from the course encompass Lyme Bay in the east across the water to as far afield as Portland Bill, and to the rugged tors of Dartmoor to the west.
Teignmouth Golf Club is justifiably proud of its heritage. The course was designed by the legendary Dr Alister MacKenzie and opened in 1924, some 9 years before he completed his most famous work at the Augusta National, home of the US Masters.
Thurlestone Golf and Tennis Club.
Running along the stunning coastline of Bigbury Bay, this Harry Colt designed course is a mix of links and cliff-top terrain with the latter providing breath-taking views of the legendary Thurlestone Rock to the East and the beautiful Avon Estuary and Burgh Island to the West.
Regarded by many as one of the finest courses in the region, the Club is reviewed well in the Top 100 Golf Courses of the British Isles.
Designed in 1926 by J F Abercromby, one of the finest British golf course designers of the last century, Bovey Castle’s 18 hole championship golf course is both challenging and beautiful. Opened in 1930, the course quickly gained national acclaim for its reputation as one of the most enjoyable places to play golf and nearly 90 years later, guests still love to play golf at Bovey. Designed to rival its sister courses at Gleneagles and Turnberry, the course has been described as an experience of golf never to be forgotten. The course meanders through the hotel estate, surrounded by idyllic landscape and offers challenges to meet any handicap.
